The fine cabbage momo

DSC_2349Few days back, one morning, my ever contemplating son, suddenly asked for Cabbage Rolls. I was much surprised, as he is very picky about food and I never imagined I will be lucky enough to see such day when he will be asking for some good food. Thus I was promptly at it. I wanted to make the easiest rolls in the shortest time, before he changes his mind. I just picked a very young fresh cabbage, minced chicken and yes that’s all. I mixed the chicken with minced onion, ginger, some oyster sauce, Soya sauce and lemon juice. Finally used a little bit of chili and dash of brown sugar. I use only brown sugar at home, the unrefined goldenish brownish sugar that is, soo used it. Any other sugar is just fine. Oh some fish sauce too.DSC_2352After mixing thoroughly, I plucked the cabbage leaves; put them in boiling water for 3 minutes and right back to ice cold water to stop the process. i have put the minced chicken inside the leaves, wrapped and baked for 25 minutes, drizzled little olive oil when I put in the oven. DONE. It was easy, delicious and healthy.

You can add other sauces or use beef and pork whatever you like best. You can steam it too. Put the rolls in a batter and fry in hot oil. This is a food that you can have in any format you want. I baked as I didn’t want to take the hassle of frying or steaming.  For your help, I am giving the exact recipe I did. You can call it a cabbage momo.

Ingredients:

1 small cabbage (15 medium size leaves)

250 gm chicken minced

2 onion finely chopped

1 ginger 2 inch finely chopped

Soya sauce 1 tea spoon

Fish sauce 1 tea spoon

Oyster sauce 1 tea spoon

2 green chilies finely chopped

Brown sugar 2 pinch

Lemon juice 2 tea spoon

Olive oil or any vegetable oil 2 table spoon

Salt to taste.

Procedure:

Put about 1 litre of water and boil. give 3/4 leaves at a time and wait till it softens for about 3 minutes. Keep a bowl of ice water ready by the side, put the hot leaves straight away in the ice cold water. This will keep the leaves green and crunchy. Set aside.

Pre-heat the oven in 200c for 20 minutes, while you prepare the rolls. Mixed the chicken with the rest of the ingredients except the oil. Take a leaf, put 1 1/2 teaspoon chicken and put in on the leaf at the edge. Wrap, make sure all the sides are properly tucked in. Put the rolls in the tray, brush the oil lightly and bake for 25 minutes.

Bring out, have it hot with your choice of sauce, we had it will little bit of soya sauce.

Have fun.
