Just like old Delhi old Dhaka too is bursting with traditional food items, ancient cultures and round the clock activity. Today we went on a random old Dhaka expedition in search of Bakarkhani. Bakarkhani is delicate small round flat bread that has biscuit like texture. It is a great companion of the great Shuta Kabab alias thread kebab or desi cheese popularly known as the Dhakai Paneer. An afternoon with Bakarkhani, cheese or shuta kabab and malai tea is perhaps one of the best.
I love Bakarkhani, the old Dhaka Bakarkhani artisans make various kinds of Bakarkhani, thin crusted, and thick crusted, with chunks of cheese and with sugar sprinkled on top. My favorite is the cheese version.
For the first time I tasted one bread just out from the oven. Oh man! That is mind blowing soft, smells fresh ghee and has a buttery texture. You got to try that one once in a lifetime. It should be added to your to do itinerary in Dhaka.
Finally I got back home with hands full. Next few days no worry, just keep calm and have tea with Bakarkhani.
