[ The Corner Courtyard ]
I have been meaning to write on my Kolkata visit early this year, on Bangla Hues for last 3 months. Whenever I am sitting down, thinking to write about it, I end up writing something else instead. I really don’t know why I couldn’t finish it yet. I guess actually there is nothing to write about the trip in general expect for the food adventures we had (which will be another post).
It was essentially a shopping trip that I planned for a long time with my best friend. Initially it was only me and my bestie, then my son and gradually my husband got included and we all had a ball in Kolkata. We spent most of our time in eating and shopping till we got broke and had lots of nice time. At the very end one of my other bestie also joined and we all watched a Bollywood movie, a mandatory Kolkata activity.
I have been to Kolkata for few times but this time the trip became more memorable as it was with my husband and son including my besties. The best part of the trip was the place where we stayed, The Corner Courtyard. This is a place that is absolutely me, how I like things to be.
Artsy, creative and intelligent decor made the 18th century building a great stay for tourists. The building is a typical Indian old building with courtyard, now turned into a dinning hall, rooms in rows and a long balcony in both inside and out. The big open terrace is also a great hang out place.

I have taken lots and lots of pictures of the place for my post. This place has been suggested by a friend who stays there all the time, whenever he travels to Kolkata. May be to some people there might be some privacy issues, as the rooms are pretty close to each other and courtyard dinning place makes lots of noise during day but I find all that to be pretty okay.
Only problem is, it is pretty far from the basic tourist area, meaning Saddar Street. Therefore, the dollar changes, phone sim and other facilities might be a little troublesome. But that too was okay to me as it gives opportunity to see the city more up close. To me the only setback was the breakfast. For a great hotel like that, the complementary breakfast was quite dull and boring. It is only one guy running around during that time, and such small option in breakfast, doesn’t match with the glamour of the hotel itself.

I was in total awe of the boutique hotel. The hotel has only 8 rooms versatile in decor and named after Kolkata landmarks. For your next Kolkata visit I suggest you stay there. It will give you a fun feeling that will make the vacation more meaningful.
