    Guide to Bhutan

July 4, 2017 - By Aziza Ahmed Paula

[ Guide to Bhutan ] I have been planning to travel to Bhutan at least for past 4 years. Somehow, as time doesn’t match I kept on postponing it. This year I was adamant, and went on without my husband and with my son. Bangladeshis have visa on arrival system in Bhutan, hence no need to apply for a visa. But take a print out of hotel reservation, passport size photo and a xerox of your passport just in case. They didnt ask for any information at the immigration for me and my son. Though, as per the standard law,…

    Definitely pretty

June 22, 2016 - By Aziza Ahmed Paula

[ Definitely pretty ] In inspiration section today we have Saria Saguaro. Saguaro means cactus and she thinks her nick is accurately given. She is one of the best bakers in town, who has her own online cake studio The Flourist. I adore her cakes, especially as they are made of buttercream. Besides making beautiful signature cakes she does painting and creates merchandising items under the name Pretty Shitty art.  Though she calls it pretty shitty, but they are very beautiful, creative and bold. Bangla Hues asked her few questions and here is what she replied… Bangla hues:  You got…

    Dry flowers

December 28, 2015 - By Aziza Ahmed Paula

[ Dry flowers ] If I could I would decorate my home with fresh flowers everyday. The fragrance, the freshness and the colours of a fresh flower is a source of instant happiness around the house. Unfortunately in my everyday commute, I don’t have any flower shop, I have to go out of my way to get some fresh flowers. It is quite troublesome to get flowers frequently. So I decided to dry the roses I flaunted few days back. I loved them so much that I wanted to keep them for the longest time. I have always admired dry…

    Egyptian mint tea

December 4, 2015 - By Aziza Ahmed Paula

[ Egyptian mint tea ] For our honeymoon we went to Egypt. There was a roadside cafe near our hotel in Ciaro downtown. When we went there for an evening shisha session they offered us “egyptian tea”.  First I thought it will be something exotic, totally different from anything I have ever tasted. However, I admit I was little disappointed but I loved the freshness. I have had mint tea before several times. Thus, it wasn’t something very different, rather it was very known and very much favourtie. Since the first day, where ever we went, people insisted that we…

    Hemanta…. or Late Autumn

October 28, 2015 - By Aziza Ahmed Paula

    [ Hemanta…. or Late Autumn ] All of my seasonal posts will begin with my favourite poet and his songs… Here is what Tagore says on Hemanta or late Autumn.. Voice of spring in autumn The full moon does carry As if paints floral dreams Moonlight on Bakul stems What secret whisperings The full moon does carry…

    Sharat… or Early Autumn…

August 15, 2015 - By Aziza Ahmed Paula

Have you looked at the sky today? Isn’t it the brightest of all. I see a bright blue sky with white harmless clouds passing through with nice gentle breeze. In other words it is called Early Autumn or Sharat in Bangla. We Bengali people are blessed with six different seasons unlike the western world that has only four. Our autumn is divided into two seasons, early autumn and late autumn. The first part which is early autumn is Sharat. In Bangla calendar the months Bhadra and Ashwin are together Sharat, from 15 August to 15 October. Though there are sudden…
